The Neshaminy Community Aquatics program has been in existence since the early 1960s. It was the creation of the late Mr. Dick Ridings a Health and Physical Education teacher at Carl Sandburg for many years. It was Mr. Ridings' belief that our swimming pool classrooms were built and maintained by the community and that the community should be able to use them when the school day is finished. It has been under the direction of Dan Gallagher since the mid-1980s and we still maintain that belief today. The program is self-funded- no taxpayer money is used to maintain it. All salaries, fees and equipment purchases are generated through the fees collected. We do have an excellent working agreement with the Health and PE staff at both pools in order to enhance the program and avoid duplication of resources. The Community Aquatics largest contribution to the district is in the area of teaching swimming and water safety for our children. We teach about 1400 student
